Care

All Reima® products are easy-care and dirt-repellent, so they do not need to be washed as often – just spray off the dirt with a splash of water or simply wipe clean. The garment can be machine-washed, turned inside out, with a non-bleaching detergent. Don’t use softener, as it will significantly reduce the breathability of the material and wear off the dirt-repelling finish.

The garment dries fast at room temperature. Products marked with the “tumble dry” symbol can be tumble-dried or cabin-dried at a low temperature.
Avoid soaking and remember to hang the garments to dry immediately after washing. As lighter colours are often harder to clean, make sure to wash lighter-coloured garments before dirt or stains become ingrained. For difficult stains, use stain remover and wash right side out for the best result.

Frequently asked questions

Dressing a child

How much room for growth should I prepare for, when buying children’s clothes?

Reima® outfits are dimensioned according to the size of the child (size 104 = 104 cm) plus room for growth for one season. This means, for instance, that an outfit bought in the autumn should fit comfortably through the winter. An overall is just right if, when the child crouches, there is still some slack in the back. The sleeves are of adequate length when the wrists are not exposed when the child lifts his hands up. The child’s build is a crucial factor in choosing a size with enough room for growth. If you buy one size larger than the child’s current height, do pay attention to the adjustability of the outfit. To avoid wear in the trouser legs, use the drawstrings to keep them ankle height, while adjusting the waist to fit just right.

What weather conditions are Reimatec® overalls suitable for?

A precise and categorical answer is impossible to give, because of differences in individual physiques and tolerance of cold. However, in cold conditions, the layered clothing system has been proved to be ideal: under layer, mid-layer and outer layer. Under layers and mid-layers can be added or removed according to the weather conditions and activity levels. Reimatec® overalls are thermal resistant and breathable, protect against wind and prevent moisture penetration from the environment into the inner layers.
The overall has to be of the right size, so that it won’t compress the inner layers. The warmth of the clothing is dependent on the still air in between the skin and the clothing.

You advertise waterproof and breathable materials. How does an outfit “breathe”?

When a child starts to move out and about independently, at least the lower parts of the outfits should be made of waterproof material. The same goes for trouser legs and crotch seams. However, because a wet skin surface cools 20 times faster than a dry one, the best waterproof materials are also simultaneously breathable. The moisture inside the outfit is let out through tiny pores in the fabric, yet water does not come seeping in.

Product care

The washing instructions tag has been cut off my Reima® garment. How do I wash it?

Most Reima® garments can be washed at 40 °C. The swimsuit-type materials used in our UV-protective Reima SunProof® garments require a delicate washing programme, and our woolly mid-layer garments require a wool wash programme. The fabric keeps best when you turn the garment inside out before washing; also zip up the zips and fasten the Velcro fasteners. Do not soak the laundry, so the colours won’t mix. Wash the garment only with other clothes of similar colours and use a bleach-free detergent. Avoid using fabric softeners, as they might harm the breathability of the fabric. No ironing is needed if you hang the garment to dry straight away. Most materials dry well at room temperature. Gloves and mittens should be turned inside out to make them dry faster.

Can Reimatec® products be dried in a hot cabin or tumble dryer?

Reimatec® overalls are made of tumble-dryable, durable material. They are marked with a label. The inner material of these overalls has been treated to withstand the lowest temperatures of a hot cabin or a tumble dryer (40 °C).

Can I use stain remover on Reimatec® fabrics?

You can use stain remover detergents on Reimatec® fabrics. However, it’s best to apply these detergents to the stain only, as some of them can be very strong and may fade the colours of the garment. Acetone or nail polish removers are not suitable.

Can I use finishing sprays to improve the water repellence?

Yes, you can. Reimatec® fabrics are treated with a dirt- and water-repellent finish, which prevents water from sticking to the fabric and being absorbed into it. This treatment is only on the surface of the fabric and will gradually wear off as a result of washing. You can refresh the water repellence with sprays and finishing products that are sold in sports shops and elsewhere. When buying a finishing product, make sure it doesn’t contain silicone and is suitable for breathable fabrics.

Product quality

Are Reimatec® outfits completely waterproof?

Waterproof material is not the same as a completely waterproof outfit. The Reimatec®
material itself is waterproof, as are the taped seams in Reimatec® outfits. Reimatec® clearly exceeds the classification for a waterproof material: a 10,000 mm water pillar, compared with the required 1,300 mm for rainwear! Experts have stated that a 4,000 mm water pillar should be sufficient for sitting in the rain. So, if any moisture does seep into an outfit made of waterproof material, it may be through the trouser legs or sleeve openings, or through the neckline. The zips aren’t waterproof either, so the protective tab covering the zip should be closed, too.

Why haven’t the waist seams of Reimatec® overalls been taped like all the other seams in Reimatec® outfits?

Due to our extremely high standards for quality and comfort we chose not to tape the waist seams, because no sufficiently high-quality technology yet exists. More importantly, usability plays an even bigger role behind the decision. A taped seam is always stiff, which would mean poorer adjustability and fit according to a child’s build – which, again, would mean a shorter life-cycle for the product, due to more wear on the trouser legs, for instance. There are similar reasons behind the design of the collar attachment seam in some Reimatec® products: taping was left out to avoid stiffness and poorer usability.

There’s a hole or a tear in my kid’s waterproof overall, but I’d like to fix it. What do I do? Do you stock patches?

We’d be pleased to send you patches made of the corresponding material. Please provide us with sufficient information on the product: model number and colour, if you can. No colour code is necessary, just describe it to us (e.g. dark blue, red, etc.)

I’ve just bought an outfit with a different kind of Reima Play Layers® press stud strap from that in the mid-layer garment I bought earlier, so they are not compatible. Why have you changed it?

The first generation of the Reima Play Layers® layered dressing concept was indeed equipped with a different strap model. Due to minor quality flaws we changed the press stud from the 2010 season onwards to ensure perfect functionality for the concept. While the straps are incompatible, it’s good to keep in mind that even the older mid-layers can easily and comfortably be used without using the press studs.

I’d like to return a faulty product I bought recently. How long does it take to get a new one?

Firstly, you should return the product to the retailer where you made your purchase (along with the receipt). They will assess the fault and report the fault to us. Generally, we aim to handle complaints within one week and will contact you as soon as it has been dealt with. Products will be shipped as regular postal packages (no special or express-delivery services are used). We will do our best to handle your matter urgently.
